Residents and commuters who use the Ayi Mensah-Peduase Highway have appealed to city authorities to fix the malfunctioning streetlights along the stretch.

According to them, the poor visibility on the dual carriage way at night has led to an increase in attacks on drivers and road users.

In an interview with Channel One TV on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, a resident of the area, Mclean Asare described the road as a 'nightmare' at night due to the malfunctioning streetlights.

"It is dangerous to drive on the stretch during the night because of poor visibility. We appeal to the city authorities to fix the situation," he noted.

A taxi driver, Zibril Isaiah, recounted the dangers commercial drivers face when using the road at night.

"If your vehicle breaks down at night here, especially during festivals, you have no choice but to keep moving or else you risk being attacked by thieves.

Another road user, Yaw Amofa Boakye, entreated city authorities to urgently address the problem.

"I have been exercising here since last year, and the situation was the same during the evening. The streetlights were not working. But I travelled and came back, and the streetlights are malfunctioning," he noted.

The Ayi Mensah-Peduase stretch is part of the National Route Four (N4) that begins at the Tetteh-Quarshie Interchange in Accra and runs through Adenta, Peduase, Aburi, Koforidua and Asokore to join the N6, the Accra-Kumasi road at Bunso in the Eastern Region.

It covers a distance of 110 kilometres (about 68 miles) and serves as an alternate route from Accra to Kumasi.

Beyond the Peduase Presidential Lodge, the road leads to a number of major communities, markets, schools and tourist sites in the Eastern Region.
