The Member of Parliament for Bongo Constituency in the Upper East Region has stated that the inability of the government to deal with issues of vigilantism is as a result of lack of leadership from the presidency.

Speaking to Accra based Joy FM, Mr. Bawa noted that ‘’ The problem we have is lack of leadership particularly from the president, and I have said this many times. If you will remember when the president was to address us during the state of the nations address, he initially condemned it and the next paragraph he was justifying why the people we behaving that way.

He opined that, the singular statement from the presidency justifying the vandalism has embolden the vigilante groups to engage in all sort of violent acts.

The government has been struggling to deal with acts of vandalism by its vigilante groups since it assumed power in January this year.

In less than two weeks over ten acts of violence have been recorded across the country prompting civil society groups and individuals to mount pressure on government to call the pro NPP groups to order.

The latest one is an attack on journalist in Ada on November 3 by invincible forces during the coverage of an election to approve the president’s nomination of DCE for the area.
