Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu has said it is becoming clearer that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is the Commander-In-Chief of vigilante groups, Delta and Invincible Forces.

He observed that the insecurity posed by these vigilante groups leaves much to be desired as they are reported to have attacked government installations and wreaked havoc to property.

Addressing the Tertiary Educational Institutions Network (TEIN), a student’s wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the Bagabaga College of Education on Sunday, the lawmaker for Tamale South urged the President to show that he is indeed the Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces and not the reverse.

“I had cause to remind President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that his first responsibility as the first citizen and most important citizen is to guarantee the security of all Ghanaian citizens. We have concerns about the creeping lawlessness in the country in the name of vigilante groups whether Delta Force or Invincible Force. Let him be reminded that he is Commander-In-Chief of Ghana Armed Forces and not Commander-In-Chief of the Invincible Force or Delta Force. He should raise them too well so that ever citizen can go about his/her normal duties without acts of intimidation or insecurity as a result of the activities of his vigilante groups”, he stated.

President Akufo-Addo last Saturday while speaking at the graduation ceremony of Trinity College in Accra charged religious leaders to join his government fight socio-economic evils in society.

According to him ‘the new phenomenon” of vigilantism is among the list of such evils as well corruption, crime and illegal mining.

The fight for jobs has been literal since the President took over the reins of government in January 2017. Groups like Delta Force, Invisible Forces which proved vigilant during the 2016 elections have proved difficult for government to control.
