The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) has joined calls for government to set up an independent body to investigate the alleged doctored tape saga and the corruption claims against the two Deputy Chiefs of Staff, Abu Jinapor and Francis Asenso-Boakye.

The Executive Director of GII, Linda Ofori Kwafo, believes the new twist has undermined the integrity of the earlier CID report on the corruption allegations, hence a fresh probe must be launched into the matter.

This follows allegations by Deputy Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police service, ACP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, that her voice has been doctored in the now famous A Plus tape saga in which she was heard attempting to cover up for the Deputy Chiefs of Staff during investigations into corruption allegations against them.

Commenting on the development in an interview with Class News, Ms Kwafo called for an independent probe.

“Let’s get people who have the capacity to conduct investigations to see whether the tape recording is original, and secondly how the conversations that they had impacted on the findings or how essentially, it throws the outcome of the investigation into another level. There is the need for proper investigations to be conducted into the matter,” she stated.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Bongo, Edward Bawa, charged President Nana Akufo-Addo to order the Deputy Chiefs of Staff to step aside while government launches an independent probe to ascertain the authenticity of the doctored tape.
