National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Sagnarigu and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Communication Committee Hon Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini has said the amount of money being used by government through the National Identification Authority (NIA) for the Ghana Card project is “criminal, almost prohibitive” and has vowed together with his colleagues to fight the whole scheme, MyNewsGH.com can report.

“The money ‘de3’ it is criminal, almost prohibitive. They are lying to us. When Ken Attafuah came to parliament he told us it costs 1.2billion. It is rather 1.4 Billion for the exercise. Because when we investigated, we discovered he lied to us. So even the figure they are manipulating the figure If this not ‘chop chop’ what should we call it?” The NDC MP asked.

“It did not go through tender. They have sat down and selected their cronies and awarded the contract like kelewele and toffee”

The Minority has refused to participate in the ongoing registration exercise and have encouraged National Democratic Members to boycott the exercise nationwide if the National Identification Authority is unwilling to bend to their demand of including the Voters ID card as part of the requirements.

Currently, only birth certificate and passport are for consideration for the Ghana Card while provision has been for Commissioners of Oath to accompany team to help those with neither of the above.

The NDC MPs, who were in parliament during the passage of the NIA Act have now suddenly made a U-turn after the passage of the act which mandates the NIA to act within it.

In a related development, Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Isaac Adongosaid the Minority might take legal action against persons who circulated fake Ghana cards of some Minority Members of Parliament (MPs).

Some pictures of the Ghana Card circulating on social media had the details of some Minority members like the Asawase MP, Muntaka Mubarak and Mr. Adongo. The Bolga Central legislator said Minority MPs intend to consult their lawyers on the next line of action, following the development.

“Of course, we will have a conversation around it. We will speak with our lawyers and we will seek the views of our lawyers and if it means giving them our instructions to act on our behalf, in respect of this matter we will do so because this is fraudulent.” he had said.

The Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak, has already expressed his side’s displeasure with the development.

Muntaka Mubarak said that the Ghana Cards in circulation were fake.

He stated that if he knew where the picture of the fake cards emanated from, the Minority would pursue legal action.

His colleague, Alhassan Suhuyini, however, suspects some persons at the seat of government are behind the ‘fake cards’.
