Head Pastor of Possibility Worship Centre, Prophet Nana Agyemang Owusu
The Head Pastor of Possibility Worship Centre, Prophet Nana Agyemang Owusu, has thrown his support behind President John Dramani Mahama over recent comments on LGBTQ+ issues in Ghana.
According to the clergyman in a self-made video posted on Tiktok, the President’s remarks have been misunderstood by some sections of the public, insisting that Mahama did not suggest he would refuse to sign any anti-LGBTQ+ legislation approved by Parliament.
Speaking on the matter, Prophet Nana Agyemang Owusu said the President was only prioritising the country’s pressing developmental challenges ahead of other national debates.
“I have heard about the ongoing discussion on LGBTQ+ issues and I believe everybody has his or her own opinion,” he stated.
“But I think that the President made a very outstanding statement and what it means is that in our local dialect we say we do what is more important before we consider what is relevant.”
He further explained that President Mahama’s comments should not be interpreted as opposition to the anti-LGBTQ+ bill currently before Parliament.
“So, the President did not mean he will not sign the bill when Parliament approves it,” he added.
The pastor described President Mahama as a committed Christian who understands biblical values and principles.
“The President we have here is a good Christian and if I am not mistaken, he is a preacher of the gospel. He knows what God dislikes and what God likes,” he stressed.
Prophet Nana Agyemang Owusu also appealed to Ghanaians to exercise patience with the President, noting that his administration is still in its early stages.
“The President just came into office, he has not even spent his second term, so let us give him some time and I believe because of God and the prayers of Ghana that the President will deliver,” he said.
Mahama on why LGBTQ+ bill is currently not Ghana’s top priority
President Mahama, while addressing Civil Society Organisations at the Jubilee House on March 30, 2026, stated that although the LGBTQ+ debate is important, it should not overshadow the country’s more urgent socio-economic challenges.
According to him, Ghana continues to grapple with issues such as education, healthcare, jobs, food, clothing and shelter, which he said should remain the government’s primary focus.
“I explained during my recent engagement with the World Affairs Council that it is not the most important issue we face as a nation,” President Mahama stated.
“We are still grappling with the provision of basic needs such as education, healthcare, jobs, food, clothing, and shelter,” he added.
