The President of the National House of Chiefs, Agyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, has challenged the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, to provide evidence to back his claims that the chief is engaged in partisan politics.

While denying Asiedu Nketia's claim that he (Yaw Gyebi II) is actively supporting the ruling New Patriotic Party, in a report by Citinewsroom.com, the Paramount Chief of Sefwi Traditional Area dared the NDC chairman to seek legal redress if his claim has any basis.

"It's never true. If it is true, he can go to court. He can go and report. The Supreme Court has come up with guidelines for Nananom, so if the president of the National House of Chiefs is seen wearing a particular party's paraphernalia or campaigning for a particular party, he can take me to the police or to court. Ask him where he saw me engaging in all those activities, where he saw me wearing the party's paraphernalia. Every average Ghanaian now holds a cell phone, so when you see those things, click, you take the picture and show it to the whole world," Ogyeahoho Gyebi II is quoted by the report.

Johnson Asiedu Nketia, during a recent campaign event in the Asante Akim Central Constituency, accused Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II of allegedly supporting the ruling party.

The National Chairman of the NDC observed that such active partisanship by the chief would greatly impact his role as a mediator in key national issues such as the ongoing parliamentary impasse.

He added that it could also affect the credibility of the National House of Chiefs and the nation's democratic processes.
