Former President and Founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings has fired shots some self-acclaimed men of God in Ghana describing them as mentally deranged personalities.

Mr. Rawlings in an address delivered at a Town Hall meeting of cadres and NDC activists at the Arts Centre in Accra on Saturday subtly took a swipe at a section of members of the clergy indicating that the country is destined to fall back in terms of development if they are not apprehended and flushed out of the system with immediate effect.

The former President who was contrasting some actors in the political circles from his own party with some ‘fake’ pastors and prophets said he had witnessed a lot of negative actions during the Kufuor, Mills and Mahama eras, stating that had some of the negative actions against him come from the NPP he would not have been surprised but coming from his own people was difficult to take.

He said just as we have many psychiatrically challenged personalities holding bibles with many followers, so do we have in politics too. “And if we don’t recognize them quickly and find a way of pushing them out then we are destined for failure.”

Rawlings’ jab directed at the clergy comes on the back of recent testaments of death prophecies that had earlier been made about Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng known in showbiz as Ebony Reigns.

The death of the dancehall diva, Ebony Reigns, sparked a huge debate among Ghanaians after some prophets claimed to have predicted her demise beforehand while others said they knew those responsible for the 20-year-old star’s death.

One of the prophet’s at the centre of the controversies is Prophet Nigel Gaise who claims to have seen the dooms day coming but had no authority to avert the sad vision.

The man of God who’s the Founder and leader of the True Fire Prophetic Ministry (TFPWM) emphatically stated that Ebony was going to be killed in an accident and that nothing could save her, and indeed it came to pass as the musician died in an accident on February 8, 2018 on the Kumasi-Sunyani highway.

Other reports have quoted the prophet as saying that God showed him Ebony’s death months before it happened, adding that God told him to caution Ebony against “Chronic Lesbianism”.

Prophet Badu Kobi, Leader of Glorious Wave Church International; Rev Owusu Bempah, Founder and leader of the Glorious Word Ministry International; and Sound Engineer, Kaywa have all said they predicted the death of Ebony.

The doom “prophecies” have spread to other celebrities, with another prophet predicting that self-acclaimed king of dancehall, Shatta Wale, will also die by July 2018.

After hearing the death prophecy, Shatta Wale who could not hold back his anger vowed to burn down the church of the prophet if the said prophecy does not come to pass.

Of all these prophets, Ebony’s management have revealed that it was only prophet Owusu Bempah who communicated with them. According to a member of the management team, Abeiku Santana, Prophet Owusu Bempah had offered Ebony some directives to observe in order to avert that death prophecy.

Ebony died in a gruesome motor accident late Thursday evening on the Sunyani-Kumasi road while returning to Accra after visiting her mother and other family members in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The final funeral rites and burial service is expected to be held on March 24 at the forecourt of the State House, Accra.

RuffTown Records, in collaboration with the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Kasapreko Company Limited, will organise a tribute musical concert for her on Friday, March 23.

Some of the artistes billed to perform at the event include Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, VIP, R2Bees, Edem, Kofi Kinaata and Efya.
