Ghanaian educationist Anis Haffar has advised policy makers to reconfigure the curricula of schools to meet modern trends.

The issue of unemployment in the country has become topical, with pressure being mounted on government by the unemployed graduates association to tackle the issue swiftly.

Many stakeholders are suggesting it’s about time the educational system was re-tooled to match the demands of the job market.

A lecturer at the Ashesi University, Dr. Esi Ansah recently proposed efficient career counseling sessions from the basic school level to ensure students are properly guided towards working at their chosen career paths.

Additionally, Anis Haffar says: “There has to be a variety of activities” to curb the practice of reproducing exactly what has been taught in the classroom.

This, he sees as a “dead end” in the quest for conformity between what is taught and what the job market needs.

Mr Haffar told XYZ Breakfast Show Host Moro Awudu that educating students must enable them to fit into society and become productive.

He said that is currently lacking in Ghana’s education system because of the way the training modules in schools have been structured.

For him, “these are the changes that are profound as far as modernising education to get the best out of our people” is concerned.
