  What is probably missing in the classrooms and lecture halls is the application of knowledge to real life. Without that, the student's mind is simply focused on striving to reproduce facts to pass exams.
  
  To avoid the resources bottleneck (always used as an excuse), students, especially the primary ones, should be encouraged to "invent on paper". The thought process is what matters at that early age. But such activities can be fruitful even at the tertiary stage.
  
  For instance, after a lecture on vitamins, ask them to design a healthy meal for hospital patients.
  
  Following a session on electricity, ask them to draw on paper an electric device to help traders carry goods to the market (thereby sparing the trauma on the skulls).
  
  Such mental activities alone can inculcate inventiveness and help promote the idea that education is for solving societal problems, not just for earning a living.

  You are right in proposing the "application of
  knowledge to real life" Tekonline. The recent call focusing on job creation might lead to creating deadend jobs, considering the rapid pace of technologcal change. By the time we finish training and preparing our young ones for the job market obsolescence might have set in considering the accelerated pace of technology development. Rather, we should focus on preparing our young ones to master the three R's -reading,'riting and 'rithmetic;
  critical thinking; and learning to work with others. That is why some of us have been calling for a STEMIC curriculum.
  Science, Technology,Engineering,Mathematics,Innovations & Communications.
  Unquestionably, folks we have to change how we are teaching our young ones.

  The British tailored our curriculum to their needs as educated slaves during the time of colonized Ghana, and the result was the British educated Ghanaian could only be good to push papers as a clerk, and they the British would control other important sectors and critical thinking for the Africans.
  
  Fast forward, at independence, the "well educated" Ghanaian replaced the British but not prepared to think and execute, and he had refused to train or change the paradigm to create new breeds else he would lose his larger-than-life reputation. Lol

  What about teaching our history to our young people. People who don't know their history are likely to repeat their past mistakes. If you don't know your culture you copy by heart.

  I work in industry and most of the time it seems that those who said that the Ghanaian is not trained for the job market do not know what they write and say most of the time.
  I gave an example of a foreigner attending course with Ghanaians. Being a white man he is employed by the company when more qualified and experienced Ghanaians were denied the job.
  The issue is that the majority Ghanaian employers and their foreign counterparts have not been truthful with Ghanaians. It is a fact that in the majority of cases those foreign people who are said to be "trained for the job" are retrained by their Ghanaian counterparts when they enter the job.
  It is a fact that it is the same institutions that trained immediate past president and prime ministers of China and some Ghanaians. While the Chinese were given the tools and conditions to work our own were deprived of the tools, moreover the condition. The man who establish the Malaysian nuclear medicine was a Ghanaian. He held Phd. in nuclear medicine and whiles working at the Korle Bu Teaching hospital he was paid less than his colleague medical doctors. He went and read medicine in addition to nuclear medicine and the authorities said they will pay him the salary of a medical officer. He traveled to Malaysia and got job the next day.

  AN ASSIGNMENT:
  When God created you,he gave certain talents,gifts and abilities,to accomplish something he ordains,prepares and wanted you to do,achieve.
  THAT IS WHAT WE CALL AN ASSIGNMENT.
  The problem that infuriates you the most,is a clue to where(the trade,talents,abilities,gift)that GOD has called,assigned,ordained,prepared you into.
  Example:
  If you hate injustice,may be God has called you into being in the law enforcement,judiciary,legislature or the security services,etc.
  SEARCH FOR THAT,BECAUSE IT'S WITHIN YOU ALONE.DISCERN,RECOGNIZE IT,AND BUILD A LIBRARY AROUND IT,BY SEEKING/EXTRACT INFORMATION THROUGH LEARNING(TAKING COURSES,GOING TO THE EXPERTS TO ASK QUESTIONS ON IT)ETC.
  Everything God created,is a solution to something.A child could be trained to become a lifejacket to others.
  
  MOTHERS SOLVE EMOTIONAL PROBLEMS,YOUR EARS HEAR,YOUR EYES SEE,YOUR FEET WALKS,RUNS,YOUR BRAIN THINKS,ETC.
  Each solves particular problem different from the other,but all are needful,anyway.
  Where your assignment is needed,you would be celebrated,and where you are celebrated,you would be paid,rewarded.
  You are geographically designed:
  That means,your nationality,clan,ethnicity,where you were born,race were all designed,decided and ordained by God.
  It's not accidental to be born in Africa,America,India,china,but on purpose.
  You are geographically assigned:
  This means there is a place,a city,a location where God wants you.FIND IT.
  That is where you would flourish,thrive,multiply,increase,succeed,make it above measure.RECOGNIZE IT.
  In the bible,JOSEPH was an Israelite,but never succeeded there but in EGYPT,where he was first sent as a slave.
  Ruth was a MOABITE,followed NAOMI to BETHLEHEM IN ISRAEL,before she bumped into BOAZ,the richest man in Bethlehem,who married her.
  Elijah was directed,instructed,commanded by God to go to the BROOK CHERITH,where ravens would feed him.The water got dried up,so God sent him to ZAREPHAT,where a widow,with a child,would feed him,in the time of famine.
  His logistic needs were fulfilled in the locations God instructed him to go.
  WHERE YOU ARE MATTERS AS MUCH AS WHAT YOU ARE:
  You could be a beautiful whale,but you better be in water.
  If you take a fish out water:lake,sea,river,pond etc,it struggles to survive in that condition.
  Because,it has been dislodged from its natural habitat,where it is designed to function best.
  But if you once more send it to where you took it,it swiftly swims away.WHY?
  Because it's in its natural habitat where it functions best.
  DO NOT STAY WHERE YOU ARE NOT ASSIGNED.
  BECAUSE THERE MIGHT BE OTHER PLACES AHEAD,WAITING FOR YOU,WHERE YOUR ASSIGNMENT MIGHT BE NEEDED AND THEREFORE REWARDED.
  
  Please,teach our little children this simple concept,so they will not go wrong,in the choices of the carrier.
  But rather,coming out with flying colours,in what they love to do and therefore being rewarded accordingly,gainfully,after graduation.
  MAN IS MADE TO FUNCTION BEST,WHERE(IN THE CARRIER AND LOCATION)) GOD CALLS HIM.

  We have all sorts of people who claim that they are experts in education but know nothing. A deputy minister said how can an agricultural engineer become a pilot. I wrote that it was students from China and India who sat in the same class with Ghanaians who transformed their countries. Has the Ghanaian been given the tools to perform after 1966? When there was educational reform it was made to look that there were no graduates from technical school to teach technical skills.
  I am of the view that these critics of the educational system will soon side with Boko Haram.
