Registrants come alive with orderliness

Prospective registrants at the Local Authority School at the Ho Leprosarium have come alive with orderliness and strictly obeying the social and physical distancing protocols to wait for their turn to acquire the new voter’s card.

The Ghana News Agency witnessed an orderly seating arrangement of registrants spotted in different colours and designs of face or nose masks covering up in adherence to the agreed protocols towards protecting lives.

Registrants on the first two days at the same Centre however became unyielding to observing the health protocols giving cause of concern to all.

Mr Anthony K. Bruce, Assemblyman of Wusu-Dome narrated to the GNA that he took up the challenge and was ready in hand to correct the looming danger of a possible infection spike of Coronavirus cases if the situation remained unchanged.

He said the new arrangement was borne out of collaboration among stakeholders including; the Electoral Commission (EC), the Local Authority School, and the community.

He said members in the queue at the end of the day’s exercise would be tasked to park off the chairs into the classrooms with the early birds re-arranging them the next day.

Mr Bruce said special arrangements were reached for the elderlies, pregnant women and disabled persons at the Centre explaining that the EC’s dispensation enabling the categories of people to throng their premises was problematic to the cured lepers.

He said the EC’s District Office, the designated point for the vulnerable, was far from the Leprosarium and it would be almost impossible for the cured lepers to queue up, feed themselves and find means to get back home.

Ms Belinda Kwame-Dorvi said the first two days of the exercise generated 118 and 90 new cards respectively, with only 10 people having gone through the exercise at 0756 hours today.

Political representatives are content with the exercise, which they described as smooth.The Ho Municipality has a total of 193 registration centres clustered into five phases and in the 38-day voter registration exercise.
