Resource us or we 'advise ourselves' – JUSAG to government

The judiciary in Ghana has been under-resourced for a long time, Alex Nartey, President of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG), has said.

According to him, workers lack resources to undertake their day-to-day activities.

This situation, Mr Nartey said, is negatively affecting the work of the staff of the judicial service.

He told Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM hosted by Chief Jerry Forson on Wednesday, 20 June that the allowance arrears of drivers, security personnel and other workers since 2016 have not been paid.

“The Judiciary plays a critical role in the governance of this country but the sector is extremely under-resourced,” he said.

He added: “There is no sector of the economy that is not concerned about the work of the judiciary because whatever we do, we fall on the judiciary to settle matters and also provide legal basis for our activities but we have under-resourced the judiciary so much that the environment itself is now a threat to the workers.

“Our allowances since 2016, drivers’ over-time allowance, security over-time allowance, have all not been paid. We want the government to act on our demand.

“We have given the government up to the 29th of this month to act on our demands, if government doesn’t act, we will advise ourselves.”
