Rev. Anyani Boadum scores EC 80 percent

According to a renowned man of God, the structures we have in Ghana regarding our electoral process is the best as compared to other countries in the world, including a democratic country like America.

Rev. Anyani Boadum, General Overseer of the Jesus Generational Ministries says the attacks on the Electoral Commission of Ghana is unnecessary and uncalled for.

"The EC is a state institution and not a governmental body. It is not only mandated to organise elections in Ghana... but some Ghanaians do not necessarily understand their work. If am to credit them, I will score them 80 percent. They have done well."

The EC has come under severe attack from individuals, political parties, and organisations for exhibiting actions that critics believe may compromise the credibility of the elections.

Others have chided the Commissioner, Charlotte Osei, for her abysmal performance in her first year in office.

But speaking in an interview with Rainbow Radio 87.FM, the member of the Pentecostal Council said Ghana is far better today when it comes to the work of the EC, and organisation of elections.

"Our electoral system is far better than other nations. We are even better than America ... In terms of the structures that we have... Ghana has come far. Gone are the days when ballot boxes were snatched during elections. Elections in Ghana today have improved."

Elections, he said, should be organised peacefully devoid of attacks, violence and instability, therefore the need for all stakeholders to contribute their quota.

"However, the communications now should sit up. We need to respect state institutions. The attacks on the EC is not necessary but am not surprised. The trend has always intensified every election year."

Rev. Anyani Boadum charged political parties to channel their energies to their campaigns instead of attacking the EC.
