Nana Wiafe Akenten III, the paramount chief of the Offinso Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region, has added his voice to the calls on President John Dramani Mahama to sack his aide, Stan Dogbe, if he is found to be the one who leaked the striking doctors’ confidential information contained in their conditions of service document presented to the government.
The traditional ruler said the presidential staffer must be punished because his action was a total betrayal of the trust the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has in the president, insisting that the document was officially submitted to the president for his perusal and action.
Meanwhile, Nana Wiafe Akenten has appealed passionately to the striking doctors and other health professionals to call off their strike for the sake of the poor people of Ghana who are battling various diseases and sicknesses.
He advised the Mahama-led government to set up a technical advisory committee to draw up satisfactory conditions of service for the striking doctors to improve health delivery in the country.
The eminent chief said the myriad problems confronting the nation point to the fact that God is angry with Ghana for despising His rules – such as truthfulness, honesty, patriotism and accountability which are necessary for national progress.
The chief, who is a staunch Christian, said these when the Ashanti Regional Manager of the DAILY GUIDE, James Quansah, presented copies of his maiden religious book entitled, “The Marks of True Christian Worshippers” to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at Offinso last Friday.
In his brief advice to the DAILY GUIDE employee who was accompanied by Nana Nanabayin Ninsin-Imbeah II, ex-Nyimfahen of Mfansteman Council in Ashanti, the traditional ruler said men of God have the responsibility of speaking the truth of the word of God to help shape the destiny of the country.
While advising the clergy to refrain from dabbling in partisan politics, Nana Wiafe Akenten III, called on heads of churches to unite and declare a three-day fasting and prayers for the country, trusting that God would be merciful to the country.
The Offinso paramount chief explained how God had been merciful to the Offinso community after he had recently organised pastors and declared a three-day fasting and prayers for the development of the area.
He wondered why many Ghanaian pastors are failing to unite and pray to plead God’s forgiveness and pardon for the sins of the people, especially the leaders.
“Ghanaians should humble themselves and cry unto God. There is so much pride, corruption, hatred, covetousness and other evil deeds in both religious and secular institutions of the country. And we cannot do much without God,” he said.
He condemned the current trend of politics in the country whereby everything is politicised with insults, name-calling, propaganda and campaign of calumny.
