Saudi King Present Dates Fruit to Ghanaian Muslims

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in the Kingdom, King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud has presented 2500 (50 Tons) cartons of Dates Fruits to the Republic of Ghana for onward distribution to the various Muslim groups and organizations in Ghana.

In a speech read by the Charge D’ Affairs of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Accra, Mr. Majed Awadh Alsulami said ” this is a continuation of the solid relations based on cooperation and friendship which exist between the countries since time immemorial.”

He expressed his deepest gratitude and appreciation to all and lauded the fructuous a

nd constructive cooperation between Ghana and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Rashid Pelpuo, Minister of State in charge of Private and Public Sector Partnership, thanked the Saudi Authority for the presentation which has come timely just as Muslims completed the month long Ramadan Fasting period a about a week ago.

He said the gesture illustrates strong bond and friendship between the two countries. He noted that Dates are very nutritious as it contains a number of vitamins A,B1,B2 ,and C.It also contains protein, carbohydrates and sugars, mineral salts, niacin B7and others.

The Dates was received by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in Accra on behalf of Ghanaian

Dates are sweet fruits that grow in a palm-like tree. And are mostly found in Middle East countries including Saudi Arabia, Iran, Jordan, Syria, UAE etc.

Its history dates back to the years of the Prophet Mohammed (SAW) in Arabia. Prophet Mohammed (SAW) is said to be a lover of Dates Fruits and used them to break his fasting.

According to WiseGeek.com; A date fruit is the product of a date palm, a tree native to Northern Africa and the Middle East, although it is also cultivated in other parts of the world. In addition to being eaten fresh, the date fruit is dried and eaten whole as a snack or included in an assortment of desserts.

Many regional Middle Eastern cuisines incorporate dates, as do Mediterranean cuisines like those of Italy and Greece. Dried dates are usually readily available in most markets, and fresh dates can be found in specialty markets in season.
