Following the widespread leakages of examination questions in the end- of- semester examinations in, the last November/December, the authorities of the university have cancelled six papers taken during the examinations.
The action was taken after the confirmation by the Mfodwo committee report of the leakage of examination papers in the last semester that six papers out of the over 400 question papers administered leaked.
? The executive committee, has after careful deliberations decided to cancel the papers that leaked and directed that arrangements should be made for candidates to re-write them at the end of the second semester?, a statement issued by the Registrar, A.T. Konu said.
The subjects are:
BIOL 203: Introductory Animal Biology
PSYC 203: Biological foundations of Behaviour
PHYS 203: Properties of Matter and Vibrational motions
BIOL 205: Vertebrate anatomy
SOCI 401: Social Anthropology
POLI 203: Political institutions
The scandal that has rocked the university which include the tinkering and fixing of grades has been described as fraudulent by the Minister Education and Sports, Hon Yaw Osafo Maafo.
Hon Yaw Osafo Maafo said, it was regretted that that lecturers were also involved in the shameful deed which can undermine the creditability of the university. He has, therefore, charged the university authorities not to spare anybody fund to have been involved in the scandal, unearthed by the Mfodwo committee.
The Minister said the committee report should be implemented to the letter, saying that the revelation of the rot at legon was shocking to him.
The university authorities in a statement pledged to take drastic action all the peple cited in the scandal.
According to the university all the people who findings have been made against by the Mfodow committee will be dealt with accordingly.
The Mfodow committee chaired by Bekow Mfodwo retired Academic registrar of the university set up to look into the first semester examination leakages found same people cupable including the Pro-VC, Prof Edward Ofori- Sarpong for soliciting marks for his daughter without passing through the normal channel. According to the statement. The Executive Committee of the University has directed that disciplinary proceedings should be initiated against the people cited in the report.
The son of the Vice Chancellor, Kwadwo Tabiri Asenso-Okyere was also implicated in the report for trading in examination papers for cash.
Kwadwo Tabiri Asenso Okyere (KT), a level 400 Political Science student, the committee said was responsible for leaking four of the six papers confirmed to have been leaked during the end-of-semester examinations. KT is said to have left the country for United States where he is alleged to be a citizen.
