A security guard at the Accra New Town Experimental D/A School, identified as Alhaji, has said that most teachers of the school could have lost their lives if the building collapse had occurred on Monday, March 30, 2026.
According to him, some pupils were on campus on Saturday, March 28, 2026, for special classes and used the collapsed building.
He further explained that the uncompleted building which has collapsed, is where most teachers sit when they come to school, while the headmaster’s office is also located on the first floor.
Alhaji added that pupils who are currently writing examinations were occupying the ground floor of the building, stressing that the timing of the collapse spared many lives.

“Just three days ago, some pupils were here for Saturday classes and closed around 3:30 pm. If the collapse had happened today, many teachers could have died, as most of them have their desks in the storey building. The headmaster’s office is even on the first floor, while pupils were on the ground floor writing exams,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Vice President Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has visited the site of the collapsed building to assess the situation and extend the government’s support to affected residents.
