Private legal practitioner, Lawyer Maurice Ampaw says government through the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) must set up a team to monitor and report issues on sexual harassment in various second cycle schools across the country.

“If indeed we are serous as a country, let the Ministry of Education with the Gender Ministry set up a Committee of Enquiry and do auditing throughout our schools. Let’s give our children the opportunity to speak out their problems whiles we protect their face”. He said

To him, he thinks giving them the opportunity will help solve the menace and avoid future happenings.

“Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of education have a very big problem to deal with”. He stressed

Issues relating to sexual harassment in schools in the country have recently become a problem dominating media discussions. Recently a video circulating on social media involving a headmaster and his student making love on a ‘kitchen stool’ has brought lots of questions to be answered.

Elsewhere in the Ashanti Region at Ejisu, the Kontehene of the town is also claiming he has in his possessing videos and audios involving a teacher and students engaged in amorous sexual relationship .

This has called for many social commentators, political leaders and all stakeholder condemnation of the conduct of teachers who should have been role models.

On Hello Fm in Kumasi on Tuesday, Maurice Ampaw indicated that, issues of sexual harassment have existed in schools long ago but students have kept quiet because they have nobody to report to.

He further accused the Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) Ministry for not adopting any serious advocacy to help sensitize children in Ghana.

“Look, the ministry of Education and Gender, Children and Social Protection ministry, they don’t have any serous advocacy, school to school education, as to what students should do when they face any sexual harassment and impunity from school authorities. Whether you like it or not, some teachers will not leave children in peace. Children are no longer happier at school” He revealed.

The controversial lawyer as well suggested that, school authorities should be warned right in front of their students to put fear in them to stop the menace.
