Former President Jerry John Rawlings has expressed outrage over “sex for grades”, the phenomenon of teachers exchanging academic favours for sex, wondering why people can put others through such humiliating moments, MyNewsGh.com has filed.

The former President has described the phenomenon as incomparably bad, corrupt and corrupting and one destroying the fibre of society.

“Not only are such brilliant girls getting unfair deals but apparently sometimes the dumb ones get upgraded with that first and second honours or whatever it is when everybody knows they are not worth it.

I would wish they would examine some of the first class ones too, to see if their performance – their written what and what correspond to the mark they have been given.

Do you understand where I am coming from? Why should we be taking human beings through such humiliation? Nothing is as bad, as corrupt and as corruptible as breaking what I keep calling the moral fibre of a society. And nothing can be as bad as this. It is a short cut to destruction,” he observed.

Former President Rawlings is the latest to add his voice of criticism to this canker that seems to be gaining ground in tertiary institutions across the country and beyond.

Recently, a BBC Africa Eye undercover investigation uncovered alleged sexual harassment in the Universities of Lagos and University of Ghana.

Two Senior Lecturers of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ransford Gyampo and Dr. Paul Kwame Butakor who were captured in the infamous exposé have been interdicted pending the outcome of investigations.
