Parliament has approved the recruitment of 6,000 personnel into the Ghana Police Service within the next three years.

The recruitment exercise, which started early this year, in all the ten regions of the country, is expected to end by the year 2001. Dr Kofi Kesse Marfo, Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of training disclosed this to the Eastern Regional Minister, Miss Patient Addow, when he paid a courtesy call on her to brief her on the new modalities for the recruitment.

He said the main objectives of the exercise were to alleviate manpower problems facing the service and also bring in people with various professions and academic qualifications that would enhance efficiency in the service. Mr. Marfo stressed the need to resource the Police adequately to enable them to combat crime and commended the Minister for ensuring cordial relationship between the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) and the Police in the region.

Miss Addow commended Police personnel in the region for their efforts at combating crime and said the RCC would continue to support them in their activities to ensure that the crime wave was minimized.
