Demolitions are still ongoing at Old Fadama, popularly referred to as 'Sodom and Gomorrah.' The current demolition affirms the Accra Metropolitan Assembly's (AMA) public relations officer, Numo Blafo's position that the demolitions were going to continue unabated.

Just a day after displaced residents in the AMA's demolition registered their displeasure at the city authorities' actions by parading through the principal streets of the capital, blocking roads and lighting fires in the middle of some roads.

As at Tuesday morning, bulldozers were back on the site and pulling down more structures in other parts of the place reputed as Ghana's biggest slum.

The current demolition was being carried out even whiles a meeting was ongoing between the deputy minister of Local Government and Rural Development, the Accra mayor and party executives of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) on how to put a human face to the exercise.

As expected, reports indicate that there was a heavy security presence which comprised about twenty military men and scores of police who were on the site providing security for people who were engaged in one activity or the other.

Affected squatters are seen looking on as more structures are pulled down. The Member of Parliament for the area has claimed that the AMA overstepped an agreed demolition boundary, the squatters dispute that they were not given prior notice and the AMA also insists they went through due process before the demolition.
