Soldiers ‘fighting’ to join Operation Vanguard to make money – Toni Aubynn

Soldiers are scrambling to be drafted into the Military/Police Joint Task Force, Operation Vanguard because it has become a good enterprise to make money from illegal miners, the immediate past CEO of the Ghana Minerals Commission, Dr. Toni Aubynn, has revealed.

Operation Vanguard was set up by the government in 2017 to combat the operations of illegal mining in the country.

However, their operations have not been without controversy or incidents of crimes as three members of Operation Vanguard were arrested for their alleged involvement in a bribery and extortion racket.

Speaking to Kasapa News Nana Ama Annor, Dr. Toni Aubynn who’s the Founder and President of the Africa Institute of Extractives Industry (AIEI) stated that the interest some soldiers have being drafted into Operation Vanguard is as high as they want to go for peace-keeping duties abroad.

‘I’m reliably informed that some of the Soldiers scramble to be deployed in the Operation Vanguard Taskforce. There are rumours that it’s now a privilege in the military to be part of the Taskforce. Some of them are fighting hard to get the opportunity of joining Operation Vanguard just like going on peace-keeping in Lebanon. The soldiers know that once you’re part of the Operation Vanguard team you can make huge money.”
