Ghana winger Solomon Asante is expected to be named as the new skipper of American second-tier side Phoenix Rising Stars following the retirement of Didier Drogba.
Interim coach Rick Schantz made Asante the deputy skipper of the club after his appointment in June and the Ghanaian was in fire throughout the season netting 13 league goals and providing nine assists.
With Didier Drogba finally hanging his boots after a remarkable season, Schantz who has been confirmed as the permanent boss of the club is likely to give the main leadership role to Asante.
The move to make Asante the captain is also a means of driving away suitors as he has become a transfer target of many clubs.
