The cracks in the opposition National Democratic Congress is thickening as the current Northern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Sofo Azorka has waded into the controversies that have rocked the party.

The maverick politician Thursday rose to the defence of former President Mahama, saying Mahama cannot be blamed for the party’s woes in the last elections.

According to Sofo Azorka, the candidature of Mahama was without blemish, insisting that the attacks on his competency are unfortunate.

Speaking on Ekosii Sen programme on Asempa FM, Azorka said Mr. Mahama was solid on the grounds, however, there were certain dangerous elements within the leadership of the party who purposed that Mahama must not be allowed to sail through for a second time.

“Some of the leaders took resources and hoarded it; they said the man should not go two times, and rather they lied to footsoldiers about us that they gave the regional executives monies and we have misappropriated it. To be frank, everybody is involved in the defeat of the NDC. We are all to be blamed; we shouldn’t single out Mahama and attack him. Mahama is not an angel to be hopping from constituency to constituency to whip up support for the NDC. We should understand that the President cannot be faulted in the defeat. Our leaders should spare us, and refrain from the media war; They shouldn’t go on radio to spoil the party. Every leader who’ll condemn President Mahama is confused.”

Azorka is however, rooting for Mahama to accept the call to lead the party once again in the 2020 contest, insisting that Mahama would still be a fine candidate for the NDC.

For him, NDC lost the elections because Ghanaians are used to two terms of every government.
