Fri, 28 Mar 2003 Source:

THE President, Mr J. A. Kufuor, has made major changes in his government, moving around certain key ministers and dropping one.
Youth and Sports Minister, Mr Edward Osei-Kwaku, has been fired. The Ministries of Education, Youth and Sports have been merged with Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu as the sector minister.

Sports ministry scrapped

President John Agyekum Kufuor has scrapped the problem-plagued Ministry of Youth and Sports. In a major cabinet reshuffle announced on Thursday, that ministry now belongs with the education portfolio and would be managed by former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Kwadwo Baah Wiredu.

The sports ministry, within a period of two years has seen three ministers, the first of whom is now serving a prison term for stealing $46,000 belonging to the state. The second was Papa Owusu Ankomah, spent just about three months there.

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana declared the outgoing one, Osei Kweku, a ?flop?. Combining the sports ministry with that of education, another trouble spot, is likely to take the spotlight off it. It however creates a huge ministry, whose management will certainly be challenge.
