A lot of people don’t even know that Busia introduced national service – Patrick Boamah

NPP stalwart Patrick Yaw Boamah has pointed to policies introduced under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its predecessor parties as a reason for his continued commitment to the political tradition.

During a question-and-answer session with party members on social media, Boamah highlighted what he described as policies that have affected generations of Ghanaians.

He traced the record back to the period of Prime Minister Kofi Abrefa Busia, saying some of the initiatives introduced during that era are not widely recognised today.

“Because if you look at our policies from Busia’s time, a lot of people don’t even know that Busia introduced national service,” he said..

Boamah then pointed to the administration of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, citing the National Health Insurance Scheme, social intervention programmes and infrastructure expansion.

“President Kufuor did his best,” he said.

He also cited the Free Senior High School policy as another major policy associated with the tradition.

“So if you look at policy-wise and policy that affects generations, you can link them up to the New Patriotic Party and our foundation parties like the UP, PP, PFP, the New Patriotic Party,” he said.

Boamah used the policy record he cited to explain the historical basis of his continued attachment to the NPP and its predecessor parties, rather than focusing only on the party’s present political position.
