Accra, Aug. 19, GNA - The State has filed a Notice of Appeal against the sentenced imposed on Tsatsu Tsikata, former Chief Executive of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
In the notice of appeal filed by Ms Valarie Amate, Chief State Attorney on behalf of the Attorney-General, is seeking an enhancement of Tsikata's sentence.
Tsikata was sentenced to five years' imprisonment for wilfully causing financial loss to the state and misapplying public property by an Accra Fast Track High Court on June 18.
According to the State, it is dissatisfied with the sentence of five years' imprisonment in hard labour imposed on Tsikata by Mrs Justice Henrietta Abban, a Court of Appeal Judge who sat as the High Court judge.
In the grounds of Appeal, the State said "the sentence is not proportionate, having regard to the gravity of the offence".
It said additional grounds would be filed as soon as they received the certified true copies of the judgment and proceedings.
Tsikata was found guilty on three counts of causing financial loss to the state and one count of misapplying public property and jailed for five years on each count.
