The 2012 presidential candidate of the People’s National Congress (PNC), Hassan Ayariga has said the live broadcast of the election petition case at the Supreme Court will greatly affect investor confidence in the Ghanaian economy.
He argued that the live telecast of the case will put potential investors on the edge and discourage them from investing their resources in the country due to the uncertainty of the outcome of the case.
Speaking for the first time on the court proceedings, Mr Ayariga said though the live telecast was helpful, the implications for the country could be enormous.
“Even the investors are not going to invest because their confidence is being breached; they believe that there might be some difficulties or some ruling for or against so actually the country is very very slow in economic activities, development and many other things”.
Mr Ayariga has therefore suggested that the live telecast of the petition be stopped.
“I will appeal to the Supreme Court if they could reconsider their decision and stop the live broadcasting so that economic activities will move smoothly”.
However, the former Member of Parliament for the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa constituency, Mr P C Appiah Ofori has asked Ghanaians to ignore individuals arguing against the live broadcast of the case.
He told XYZ News that Ghanaians are getting educated by the process.
The former Legislator said those arguing against the live telecast “don’t know what they are talking about at all; it’s not true”, he asserted.
He added that: “I don’t agree with them at all; rather it is making Ghanaians know that this is the position of the law and if they don’t do the right thing, they may also go through the same procedure”.
