The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is urging its political opponents especially leading members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to depoliticize the tension between Manhyia Palace and the ruling party.

“I think this matter is being overblown. …Let’s not build a mountain out of an anthill”, NPP Ashanti Regional Secretary, Mr. Sam Pyne admonished.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako and other leading figures including Acting General Secretary John Boadu; the Regional Minister Simon Osei-Mensah, as well as the Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation, Kwabena Senkyire, went to the Manyhia Palace on Wednesday, 2 May 2018 for a different purpose but got confronted by the enraged Asante monarch, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II who revealed to them that certain people close to the seat of government were making disparaging comments about him and also pitching him against the people of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area – native town of President Nana Akufo-Addo, Mr Otchere-Darko and Nana Asante Bediatuo.

This prompted an instant groveling apology by the four leading figures of the NPP, who fell on their knees before the traditional leader.

Speaking to the matter on Morning Starr, the Regional Secretary of NPP said, everything is has been blown out of proportion by elements of the NDC who are making mincemeat out of a rather unfortunate situation.

“I was not in the region when the issue happened. It takes nothing to apologize, especially to the Otumfuo,” Mr. Sam Pyne pointed out.

He also accused leading members of NDC of trying to make political capital out of it urging them to quit such moves.

Meanwhile, Mr Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, whose name has been mentioned, has said he is not stupid enough to undermine Asante monarch, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as being alleged.

Responding to the allegation against him, he wrote on his Facebook page: “Am I so stupid that I would work against my own interest and turn one-half of me against the other half by inciting my mother’s people against my father’s people; that I would bite the very hand that feeds us politically? Perplexing”.
