‘Striking teachers creating anxiety in education sector’

The Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Education, Paul Krampah, has expressed shock at the strike declared by over fifty thousand teachers across the country.

Members of the Concerned Teachers Association have abandoned the classrooms over unpaid incremental credit arrears and car maintenance allowance.

The teachers numbering about 50,000 have noted that government has been insensitive to their plight and have vowed not to return to the classroom if the allowances were not paid.

But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Paul Krampah said the strike is ill-timed and unfortunate.

According to him, teachers could not toil with the future of children “by calling a strike on trivial issues”.

Paul Krampah further disclosed that the leadership of the Concerned Teachers failed to turn up for a scheduled meeting at the ministry to address their concerns on Thursday October 24, 2013 and thus could not fathom the motivation behind their actions.

He also pointed out that the agitation by teachers in the country was “creating anxiety in the educational sector” to the detriment of innocent school pupils. The Education Ministry PRO urged the striking teachers to return to the negotiating table to settle the matter amicably.

Paul Krampah, however, assured that all the arrears will paid before the end of the year.
