Hamza Suhuyini is a member of the National Democratic Congress communication team
A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team, Hamza Suhuyini, has stated that the party’s grassroot will ultimately determine who becomes the next flagbearer of the party.
According to him, the discussion about who should lead the NDC into 2028 elections is currently not the party’s priority.
He indicated that the party’s immediate priority remains how to sustain President John Dramani Mahama’s legacy.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Friday, September 19, 2025, Suhuyini explained that the party must first focus on governance and development before turning its attention to internal contests.
“…we have a job to do. We have a social contract with the good people of this country, and we are committed to that particular social contract, an implementation of that particular political contract. But as for assumptions, perceptions of who wants to succeed His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, we would leave that to the likes of Paul and the NPP.
“The National Democratic Congress will make a choice. Our grassroots will give us a direction as to who would be leading the party into the 2028 general election. Until that is done, we can only be listening to the perceptions and effusions of those who feel that this shouldn't be the standard,” he stated.
Suhuyini pointed out that the party has always thrived on the collective will of its supporters and that the grassroots remain the backbone of any major decision, including selection of the party’s leadership.
He cautioned against premature debates about flagbearership, insisting that such discussions could distract members from the party’s broader goal of consolidating power and delivering on its mandate to Ghanaians.

Suhuyini added that at the right time, the party will open its doors for competitive processes.
He stressed that until then, members of the party must remain focused on strengthening the government and working together to ensure the success of President Mahama’s administration.
