Summons against Freddie Blay

Thu, 8 Jul 1999 Source: GNA

Accra, July 6, GNA - Mr Benjamin Teiko Hammond, a cartoonist, has applied for summons to be issued against Mr and Mrs Freddie Blay, Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, to show cause why they should not be incarcerated for failing to pay 100,000 cedis cost awarded against them by a Community Tribunal in Accra.

The matter has been slated for hearing on July 13. On March 23, the tribunal, chaired by Mr Oppong Kwao, awarded 100,000 cedis cost in favour of Mr Hammond who had sued Mr and Mrs Freddie Blay for failing to pay him 220,000 cedis being outstanding fee for cartoons he supplied the "Guide" and "Guardian" newspapers owned by the couple.

Mr Hammond claimed that he supplied 18 cartoons at a cost of 15,000 cedis each and the couple paid him only 80,000 cedis, leaving an outstanding fee of 220,000 cedis that the defendants failed to pay after several demands.

He, therefore, took the matter to the tribunal for recovery of it and after hearing of the case, the tribunal ordered that the couple should pay 100,000 cedis cost to the plaintiff.
