Supreme Court judges are very objective – V.C.R.A.C Crabbe

Vincent Cyril Richard Arthur Charles Crabbe, a former Supreme Court judge is vouching for the integrity of the judges who are set to give an important ruling on Thursday, on who really won the 2012 presidential elections.

The retired judge is calling on Ghanaians to believe in the country’s system of justice because, “supreme court judges are very very objective”.

His comments come as the nation is waiting for a crucial ruling to be given by the nine-member panel of Supreme Court justices adjudicating the matter. They will determine who actually won the 2012 presidential elections - National Democratic Congress' candidate John Mahama who was declared winner or Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The importance of this ruling has prompted a number of organisations such as the National Media Commission (NMC) to offer supportive messages to the justices. Its chairman, Kabral Blay Amihere, has encouraged the judges to “muster courage and give “a ruling without fear or favour”.

To help appreciate the minds of the judges, Joynews' Samson Lardy Ayenini spoke to justice Crabbe, who, has explained that judges consider an issue from more than one angle.

He said, a judge will determine the weight of a particular evidence by evaluating how a witness reacts to a question.

But ultimately, he says the judges will weigh an evidence in the light of the law by asking “what is the law? How does the law fit into society and how do you apply it to the facts before you?”

He backed the Supreme Court judges saying they are ”very very objective”.

Justice Crabbe is, therefore, calling on Ghanaians to “believe in the system of justices in the country, believe that they are honest, simple people who are there to do their duty as they see fit”.
