A suspected kidnapper who was arrested by the Police in the Western Region to assist in investigations into the mysterious kidnapping of young girls in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis has escaped from Police cells.
The man, whose name has only been given as Sammy, was arrested by the Bureau of National Investigations in an uncompleted building at Kansaworado, a suburb of Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis.
He was handed over to the Police and was being held at the Takoradi Central Police cell but mysteriously disappeared from the cell Monday morning.
Police have declared him as “notoriously dangerous” and is believed to be behind most of the kidnap cases reported in the metropolis in the last few months. He speaks with a Nigerian accent, the police said.
Western Regional police public relations officer, DSP Olivia Ewurabena Adiku who confirmed the disappearance of the suspect to Takoradi-based Connect FM said investigations are underway to establish the circumstances of his escape.
Relatives of some kidnapped victims who spoke to Connect FM said they were devastated by the escape of Sammy, who was said to be cooperating with the Police in tracing some victims yet to be rescued.
