Accra, Sept. 2, GNA - The Ghana News Agency (GNA) Chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on Tuesday said the impending inauguration of the newly elected executives should be put on hold and an extra-ordinary national congress held to resolve the Association's current problems.

The Chapter reiterated its position not to recognise Mr Komla Dumor, as the Best Journalist of 2000/2001 and called for a review of the procedure for the selection of award winners.

Members of the Chapter, at an emergency meeting in Accra, were unanimous in expressing their resentment against the current controversies that have plagued the Association.

They expressed dissatisfaction about the way the current GJA Executives were handling the affairs of the Association that is tearing it apart along the seams.

It was agreed at the meeting that the Chapter should table a number of proposals including amendments to the GJA Constitution for discussion at the proposed extra-ordinary meeting on the "way forward".

In a related development, the TV3 Chapter of the GJA has rejected the verdict of the three-man Kulendi Committee and comments by its Chairman, which it considered unfortunate and unconstitutional.

The chapter also refused to recognize the Presidency of Mr Yaw Owusu-Addo, saying it was contrary to the GJA Constitution, a statement signed by Mr Gabriel Bosompem, Chairman of TV3 Chapter said.

The TV3 Chapter called for fresh presidential elections in 30 days. They also called for an indefinite postponement of the proposed handing-over to a fresh executive until all related matters are acceptably resolved.

"Should the handing over and subsequent inauguration take place, the Chapter will break away," the statement said.
