Broadcast Journalist with Despite Media, Afia Pokuaa says suspending Allotey Jacob is a bad decision for the National Democratic Congress.
The National Democratic Congress has suspended its former Central Regional Chairman, Allotey Jacobs for going against party rules and regulations.
In a letter dated May 6, 2020 and signed by the party’s national president, Mr Allotey Jacobs is said to have breached articles 46(1), 46(6) and 46(8)(b) of the NDC constitution.
But reacting to the move, Afia Pokuaa who has vast experience with politics in Ghana said the suspension of the former Central Regional Chairman is wrong and bad considering the timing of the suspension.
“National Democratic Congress is boiling. NDC has written a letter that they have suspended Allotey Jacobs but if you ask me, I will say it’s a bad decision, It’s a super bad decision. This is the time that NDC you focus is election 2020,” she said.
“Nana and the NPP act like they are not using the COVID-19 for campaign, but if you look at how Nana Addo and his team are handling the issue, technically they are campaigning. Sarkodie is also on Twitter saying the President is managing it well and others are also doing same, you think it does not inure to his benefit? Even Lydia Forson who attacks government has expressed her faith in the way issues around the virus is being handled. She only expressed her disappointment when Bawumia compared COVID-19 to Dumsor,” she added.
She also stated that politicians are mainly focused on the 2020 general elections, although the country has equally pressing issues like the coronavirus to deal with.
“There are only two things before us as a country and that is COVID-19 and Election 2020 but the main focus of all Ghanaian politicians is election 2020. So if you’re a party foot-soldier who follows the politicians and insult others, then I'm telling you that their major focus is 2020 elections.
So if you don’t suspend Allotey what will happen? The best to do is to call Allotey and talk to him so he can understand that party comes first and he says he won’t listen, then you ignore him and go on with the 2020 campaign so that you can focus so that we can see that you have a united front and give NPP a run for their money so that If Nana Addo is even able to win election 2020, he will appreciate the stiff opposition, that is the kind of contest we want,” she concluded.
