A Security Expert, Colonel (Rtd) Festus Aboagye has said the swift actions of the Acting IGP James Oppong Boanuh since he assumed office barely a month ago should not justify his confirmation.

President Akufo Addo appointed Mr. Oppong Boanuh as Acting IGP after he sacked the former IGP Asante-Apeatu.

Since assuming office, Mr Oppong Boanuh has taken some swift punitive actions including the interdiction of police officers who have been found culpable in the discharge of the duties.

He’s also been commended for visiting the families of the three kidnapped girls on Tuesday, 13th August 2019, something his predecessor Asante-Apeatu did not do almost one year after the girls went missing.

But some of his critics have slammed what they describe as a hasty decision in a bid to impress the President and also ensure he’s confirmed as the substantive IGP.

Col. Rtd. Festus Aboagye in an interview with Starr News said he’s against the confirmation of the Acting IGP who had already proceeded on leave and his contract extended by the President.

“I’m not in favour of what we used to call in the army one pound one pound because anytime you extend the service of an officer who’s due for retirement you create a blockage in the system, you’re preventing others from rising up. So whether he’s going to be kept in the position or not should be based in the law but aside of the law if you want to bring into the equation the question of other professional consideration I will advise that he’s redeemed himself he has performed creditably the government may maybe assign him to other duties where he can still serve the nation and give the opportunity for other senior officers who are waiting to fill that position. Any delay in putting such an officer in that position means that we’re perpetuating the syndrome of putting retired officers on contract in the seat of the IGP.”
