The Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on political parties and opinion leaders to tolerate opposing views and ensure political stability.

A statement signed by Mr P.E.K. Antwi, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC, on the atate of political and industrial unrest said recent events in the country has given cause for concern.

The statement said with the government's approach to the Value Added Tax (VAT) and non-banking institutions as well as decisions about workers remuneration there appear to be no tangible justification for organising demonstrations by opposing parties.

It called on the leaders to concentrate on the organisation of their political parties with the hope of winning the 1996 presidential and parliamentary elections rather than creating an atmosphere which will not be in the interest of the people.
