A section of Ghanaians are unhappy with President Nana Akufo-Addo for removing the Chairperson of Ghana’s Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei and her two deputies; Amadu Sulley and Georgina Opoku Amankwa from office.
The President on June 28, 2018 ordered the EC Chair and her two deputies to hand over their respective schedules to the Director for Human Resource and General Services of the Electoral Commission and vacate their offices.
The directive was issued after a committee set up by Chief Justice, Justice Sophia Akuffo, investigated separate complaints brought against the three commissioners by Ghanaian citizens thereby recommending their removal from office.
Minister for Information, Mustapha Hamid in a statement said the Committee recommended their removal on the basis of “misbehaviour and incompetence”, pursuant to Article 146 (1) of the Constitution.
Views expressed by Ghanaians who spoke to Ghanaweb TV on the streets of Accra, however indicates that they are unenthused by the action of the First Gentleman of the land.
They are displeased with the dismissal of the Chairperson of the EC, Charlotte Osei adding that she is an honourable woman who handled the 2016 elections cautiously.
“Please tell Mahama to make Charlotte Osei his vice if Nana Addo has decided to sack Mahama. NDC is coming back to power because Nana Addo’s fake Ghana is not working, he should take it away. Mahama’s Ghana is coming back to power,” a young man told Ghanaweb TV.
Another said, “The president did not do well. He should have had patience for the EC boss.”
