Security Analyst, Adam Bonaa has urged authorities to put appropriate measures in place to ensure that the case of the missing Takoradi girls is not repeated in future.

According to him, there is a need for reforms in the handling of missing persons’ cases at the various police stations across the country.

“We need to go back to the drawing board because this caught us unawares and so I will say that we should all take heart and move on and ask for reforms with regards to the way missing person cases are handled at the various police stations.”

The Acting Inspector General of Police, James Oppong Boanuh, at a press conference Monday evening revealed that DNA had confirmed that the human parts retrieved at the house of one of the suspects in the case of the missing girls turned out to be all four girls.

Families of the girls have however refused to accept the results arguing that the police want to take them for fools while threatening a demonstration.

But speaking in an interview with JoyNews’ Israel Laryea, Adam Bonaa urged the families and Ghanaians as a whole to accept the results and work towards preventing future recurrence.

“…crime has evolved but we still do things as if there is nothing at all so I am expecting that as a nation we accept these results and see how we can put in more measures to prevent this time of situation,” he said.

He added that crimes like this should be properly checked within the first 48 hours to ensure there is a successful rescue.

He further called for improved police training to equip the force with the necessary skills and knowledge for such cases.

“At the various police station, how are they able to detect a missing case that could be serious? As we speak the police training manual are still very old so these are things we should be calling for, for proper reforms,” he stated.

He also called for the setup of an independent police complaint commission which citizens can have the opportunity to report to with the assurance that their grievances will be heard.
