Tema Metropolitan Assembly set to audit companies’ security preparedness

The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) is set to audit the security preparedness and clients’ protection facilities of companies operating within the Metropolis to ensure safety.

The Assembly is also to ensure that the installation of CCTV Cameras on the premises of companies, businesses and fuel stations becomes a prerequisite for companies operating within the Metropolis.

Mr Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, said this would be done in collaboration with the security agencies to ensure that businessmen and the public were adequately protected, safe and secured to undertake their activities.

Mr Anang-La said this in an interview after an emergency meeting with the Security Council in Tema on Thursday.

He said the TMA, through the Association of Ghana Industries, would initiate a meeting with all expatriate businessmen operating in the Metropolis to take them through security and protection measures to ensure due compliance to safety and security.

“The Assembly is also going to remove unauthorised structures in the Metropolis, which are on pedestrian walkways and cause nuisance to the protection of lives and property,” he said.

Mr Anang-La advised that companies and businesses in the Metropolis, who conveyed huge sums of monies to the banks, should take adequate steps to ensure protection by engaging the Police in such activities.

He advised the public to be each other’s keeper by reporting any suspicious acts to the Police to help address security and safety concerns.   

“Banking institutions, companies and businesses are also advised to enhance their security and safety by engaging the Ghana Police Service for a 24-hour guard to help protect lives, property and the environment,” he added. 

Mr Anang-La said the security patrols in the Metropolis would be intensified to curb the series of armed residential and street robberies as well as car thefts that had bedevilled the Metropolis lately.

“The security agencies are gathering intelligence to address issues related to the recent armed robbery attacks in the Metropolis,” he said.

He said adequate steps were being taken to fix the street lights at the Central Business Centre and called for support from companies and institutions in that regard. 

Mr Anang-La said the TMA would institute some measures to educate residents on common security techniques in consultation with the Ghana Police Service.

He assured businesses and individuals that Tema was safe and ready to promote business interests.
