Tema, Dec. 31, GNA - Six out of the ten remand suspects, who escaped from lawful custody at the Tema Community Two Police Station cell have been recaptured by the Community Two Police.

Four of the escapees, Thomas Kojo Awuah, Louis Darko, Emmanuel Anaman and Cecil Mensah were apprehended from their hideouts at different suburbs in Accra, whiles John Acquah Morris and Christopher Aboagye were arrested at Cape Coast and Dodowa respectively.

A press release issued and signed by the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Yaw Nketia-Yeboah said, three of the escapees, Mensah, Aboagye and Morris have however, been sentenced to two years imprisonment with hard labour each by the Tema Circuit Court 'B', after they pleaded guilty to the charge of escape from custody. Darko and Anaman have also been sentenced to one year each in hard labour when they appeared before the Tema Circuit Court 'A' and pleaded guilty to the same charge.

Kojo Awuah would however, be put before court after investigations, the statement added.

The Community Two Police on duty on October 23, this year, went to inspect suspects who were in two separate cells and realised that one of the cells was empty.

It was later detected that, all the 10 escapees, who were in a single cell, had destroyed some of the iron bars fitted into the concrete wall in the cells, thus, creating an escape route for them. The two policemen, then on duty at the time of the escape were given 10 days by the Police Administration to apprehend the suspects, whiles the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) were detailed to assist in arresting the suspects.
