Tetteh Quarshie-Mallam Road Overlay to Be Completed Next Month

The 5.47 billion cedi road overlay from Tetteh Quarshie Circle to Mallam Junction, which began late last year, would be completed next month.

The government is funding the 15-kilometer road maintenance work and about 75 percent work has been completed.

These were made known to newsmen on Tuesday when Sheikh I.C. Quaye, the Greater Accra Region Minster, toured the site.

Sheikh Quaye said he was satisfied with work done so far but suggested a dual carriageway to ease traffic congestion would have been better.

He said space left at both sides of the road is vast enough for a second road, adding: "this would even drive away encroachers whose activities are creating problems for road users."

Sheikh Quaye advised the contractor to install roadwork signs and reflectors to guarantee the safety of drivers and pedestrians.

He said the government is using the Road Fund judiciously and appealed to the contractor not to relent when there is a slack in the release of funds.

Mr. Michael Hachenberg, the CP General Manager, expressed his satisfaction with funds for the project and said the asphalt overlay, which would be supported by a well-constructed pavement, would last for about 20 years.

He said the government has so far provided 3.4 billion cedis out of the total expenditure of 5.47 billion cedis.

Mr. Hachenberg said the installation of four traffic lights at four junctions along side the project would starts this week.
