The Human Rights division of the Accra High has placed an injunction on the construction of a facility being built by the Ghana Army, near the private residence, in Accra, of Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asogli.

The President of the National House of Chiefs sued the Army over the construction of the six- storey building, near the 37 Army Mess, stating that its towers and wings overlooked his house, and thus breached his privacy.

The Chief of Defence Staff, the Minister for Defence, the Attorney General, and Yao Addo Developments Limited were named as the defendants in the suit.

However, in a media release, signed by Mr Stephen Tetteh, the Asogli State Secretary, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, on March 1, it explained that the injunction was to seek a solution to the problem created by the project, and therefore, expressed regret for including the Attorney-General and the Minister of Defence.

Consequently, it said, the legal action had now excluded the Minister of Defence, and the Attorney General. The release said the project was only five feet away from Togbe Afede’s house and the debris from the construction work fell unto his compound.
