The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a truck driver after intercepting a large quantity of suspected Indian hemp concealed in a container truck along the Tema-Ada Road.

The suspect, identified as Bismark Kpormeno, was arrested on Sunday, May 31, 2026, during an operation by officers of the Tema Highway Patrol Unit.

According to a police statement dated Tuesday, June 2, 2026, the suspect was driving a Hyundai Mighty II container truck when he failed to stop after officers signaled him to do so.

“The suspect, who was driving a Hyundai Mighty II container truck, failed to stop when signaled by the officers and attempted to evade arrest. He was subsequently pursued and apprehended at Bondase,” portions of the statement said.

Police said a search conducted on the vehicle led to the discovery of 12 sacks and 80 parcels of compressed plant materials suspected to be narcotic drugs.

“A search conducted on the vehicle led to the discovery of twelve (12) sacks and eighty (80) parcels of compressed plant materials concealed in a container and wrapped in sellotape,” the statement noted.

Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that the suspected substance was loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and was being transported to Ada.

The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the truck and the exhibits have been impounded.

“The vehicle and exhibits have been impounded for evidential purposes,” the statement added.

The Tema Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling drug trafficking and other criminal activities and urged the public to provide information on suspicious activities.
