The BBC has announced it will be premiering an investigative piece titled Sex For Grades on sexual harassment by lecturers in West Africa’s most prestigious universities.

The piece will be premiered on BBC's YouTube channel at 6pm on Monday.

Expectations for the premier is fast building up with the hashtag #SexForGradees already trending on Twitter.

For most Twitter users, the issue of students being haunted by lecturers for sex in exchange for academic favours is one that is common on campuses with some users confessing their direct or indirect testimonies.

Many are hoping the exposé will bring to bear realities on a phenomenon much talked about but with little evidence to show.

Some say they want the focus to extend beyond lecturers to reach other persons in the academia including Teaching Assistants.

Others are also sharing ideas on how lecturers who could be victims are reacting to the announcement with some users calling out names of their likely victims, whiles others are sharing scenarios of their reactions.

Meanwhile, some Twitter users are already rationalising the actions of the yet to be named lecturers and others who might be sexually harassing students, with some saying underperforming students also coax lecturers into sexual relationships to gain academic favours.

Others are also saying the exposé forms part of a scheme by the BBC to paint a bad picture of happenings in the region.
