The Governing Council of the University of Education, Winneba has ordered for the re-opening of the University effective 8th April, 2019.
This comes after weeks of closure following violence and destruction of property by students.
The council has again reinstated three lecturers that were sacked including Prof. Ephraim Avea Nsoh, Dr. Emmanuel Osei Sarpong, and Dr. Frimpong Kwaku Duku.
The decision was reached after a meeting at the University today, April, 03, 2019 by the Council.
Authorities have come under pressure with many questioning the feet dragging approach by the University Management and the REGSEC to resume academic work on campus.
The prolonged shut down of the university, according to them, was not in the interest of the various stakeholders.
Students’ protests led to an indefinite shutdown of the school earlier last month.
The development was triggered by the continuous agitation by the students against the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the university, and their demand for the reinstatement of some 30 staff including 23 lecturers who were sacked.
