The Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Nana Wereko Ampem has played down calls for the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kwadwo Asenso Okyere to resign following a report that confirmed cases of examination malpractice at the country's premier university.
The Mfodwo Report identified the Vice Chancellor?s son as a key culprit in the leakage of examination questions and massaging of grades.
And even though the Vice Chancellor has promised to apply sanctions against anybody whom the Committee finds culpable, a group calling itself concerned Students of Legon issued an ultimatum to the Vice Chancellor and his pro vice, Prof. Ofori Sarpong to resign by tomorrow.
The Minority in Parliament has endorsed the call arguing that as Chief Executive Officer of the University, Prof. Asenso Okyere bears responsibility for the scandalous examination irregularities that have occurred.
However the Chancellor of the University told JOY News that the calls are pre-mature.
He insisted that the university is capable of dealing with the situation.
?Some individuals who have called on the government to resign it if does not act by such and such a date so its an extension of what is happening at the national scene.? He said
He added, ?At the appropriate time you would know what has been done and what is going to be done.?
