Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Ban Ki-Moon, has shown grave interest in the December 7 elections. Ban Ki-Moon in separate phone calls to the presidential candidates of the major political parties – President Mahama and Nana Addo – is calling for nothing but peace.
Ban Ki-Moon is urging the NPP and NDC leaders to sign “a Code of Conduct which will greatly assist in lowering tensions and preventing electoral violence.”
The phone call from the UN boss follows bouts of violence across the country even as the general elections approaches.
Recent clashes between NPP and NDC supporters at the residence of NPP’s leader, Nana Addo, raised red flags across the international community as US and the UK issued warnings against the violent acts.
The December 7 elections have been described as a consequential election as both major parties are bound to face a shocking blow should they lose.
