VILAC School pledges to continue with social responsibility causes

Vilac International School, a private school in the Greater Accra Region, has said it would continue in its efforts to support the Ghana Heart Foundation to help children with neo-genital heart disorders.

It said the contribution which began over five years ago was part of its corporate social responsibility.

The school has also adopted two basic schools in Nateyosie and Apau Wawasi in the Eastern Region and supported them with educational materials, clothing and sports equipment.

Additionally, it has provided support to the Ghana Prisons Senior Correctional Centre in Accra and organises yearly clean-up exercises within its catchment communities.

Madam Eunice Adjei Wiredu, the Principal of the School, announced this at the School’s 11th Speech and Prize Giving Day and Graduation Ceremony on Saturday.

She said it also organised parties for orphanages during Christmas festivities and donated clothing, toiletries and educational materials to the less privileged children in the society.

The ceremony, which was held under the theme: “Promoting Holistic and Excellence Education for Nation Building”, attracted students, alumni, parents and guardians, including Mr Yaw Buaben Asamoah, Member of Parliament for Adentan constituency, Chief Executive Officer for La Nkwantanang, Municipal Education Director and members of the board of directors of the School.

The Principal of the School urged past students not to rest on their oars but strive for excellence in their academic pursuits and in all their endeavours.

Presenting the school’s annual report, the Principal said, it has chalked great successes in both academic and extracurricular activities, with 100 per cent passes in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) for nine consecutive years, thereby placing the school among the first-class senior high schools in the country.

She said the school’s alumni have been enrolled in top-notch universities and tertiary educational institutions worldwide and distinguished themselves in their academic pursuits while others were making headway in their chosen professions.

“I challenge you to go into the world and do well, but more importantly, go into the world and do good. Let the world know, feel and experience your excellent embodiment,” Madam Wiredu said.

Mrs Emily Akyere Buadoo Masopeh, an Assistant Director at the Audit Service, who presided over the ceremony, in an interview with the GNA, urged past students of the school to remain focused and see themselves as icons imbued with qualities and abilities to accomplish their aspirations in life.

Mrs Buadoo Masopeh, who is also the chairperson of the Parents/ Teachers Association (PTA) of the School, said the Free Senior High School policy was a good social intervention and entreated the graduands to take advantage, be disciplined and morally upright so that they would enjoy the benefits outlined by government in the programme.

There were cultural display and medley of patriotic and gospel music to entertain the gathering, which was interspersed with choreography by the pupils, while the school cadet mounted a parade to showcase their military alertness.

Prizes and certificates were presented to pupils and students who excelled in the examinations while teachers and non-teaching staff were honoured for their dedication and meritorious service to the school.

Vilac International School is a private school established on 16th August, 2008, and provides quality and holistic education to students between the ages of six months and 18 years, with the current student population of 450, drawn from 20 different countries.

It offers a curriculum modeled along the Ghana Education Service and Cambridge International Examinations, IGCSE and GCE Advanced Level with English Language as the medium of instruction on its two campuses-New Achimota and Madina Estates.
